Tasmania has a range of climatic conditions with the four main agricultural areas as follows:
- The north-west has good soils and rainfall suitable for growing vegetables, dairy and beef farming.
- The north-east has a dryer climate suitable for vineyards, cattle and sheep farming.
- The east has a climate suitable for orchards, vineyards, beef and sheep farming.
- The south has a cooler climate suitable for orchards and vineyards.
